Rano Studies the Opening and Closing Bridges and Rivers Design in Jakarta

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, admitted that he is studying the construction of a road bridge that crosses rivers and small streams in Jakarta with a lifted and closed design.

ease the river dredging

"It is aimed to ease the river dredging as an effort to anticipate flood in Jakarta," Rano said, Monday (8/11).

Collaboration in River Pollution Control Efforts to Improve Water Quality

Rano explained that rivers dredging will be run in all Jakarta areas. In fact, some locations are not accessible by heavy equipment. The heavy equipment also has difficulty to move when there is a bridge.

"So you can imagine how the heavy equipment enters the unaccessible area, especially if there is a bridge there," Rano explained.

Therefore, Rano added, his rank is exploring the possibility of utilizing a bridge with an open-close design that can be lifted. It surely makes it easier fir heavy equipment to dredge.

Related with this plan, Rano admitted that he had discussed it with the Head of Jakarta Water Resources Agency.

Rano emphasized that this bridge design had long been realized in the Netherlands and it is not impossible to implement it in Jakarta.

"I try to cooperate with our Sister City Rotterdam to construct that bridge here," he admitted.
